Time for Spring Anime 2014!

It's that time again! The weather's getting warmer (for some), the grass is getting greener, and I definitely see more people leaving their homes to socialize. It was a harsh winter, but the first day of spring is almost here! And for me, as well as for many others, that means a new anime season. Winter anime is now coming to an end, making room for all-new anime for the Spring 2014. I wasn't such a huge fan of the winter 2013/2014 anime and only followed about 3 series, sadly. The spring chart holds a lot of promise and I am actually looking forward to a few ^_^ Let's take a look at some that will be airing...

Soul Eater Not!

Trailer: Here

Plot: Join Tsugumi Harudori in the "NOT" class at Death Weapon Meister Academy, a school dedicated to training transforming weapons like Tsugumi and the meisters who will wield them. Many "NOT" (Normally Overcome Target) students aspire to join the elite "EAT" (Especially Advantaged Talent) class. But it may take Tsugumi some time to find her confidence-- and a partner -- at this crazy school! (Source: Yen Press)

Thoughts: Honestly, Soul Eater is amazing to me. A very engaging and action-packed series! I haven't read Soul Eater NOT!, but it looks like a cute little spinoff. Based on the fact that Maka and Soul also appear in this, I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this one~

Verdict: Definitely plan to watch!

Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii

Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii

Plot: Nike, the fourth princess of the Rain Dukedom and one who holds the power to call forth the rain, travels to the Sun Kingdom to marry Sun King Livius for her country, despite her own reluctance. She soon discovers that the King, who conquered the world in only three years after his ascendance to the throne, is still a child!! Furthermore, for trivial reasons, he has demanded that Nike call forth the rain…! (Source: MU)

Thoughts: Overall concept sounds somewhat interesting, but not quite sure what direction this anime will lean towards. It's being producing by Studio Pierrot (Naruto, Level E, Tegami Bachi), which usually makes series that I end up liking, so I'll give it a try.

Verdict:  Plan to watch

Sidonia no Kishi (Knights of Sidonia)

Trailer: Here

Plot: It's been a thousand years since the Gauna, a strange alien race with no known method of communication, destroyed the solar system. A portion of humanity managed to escape using enormous "seed ships" like the Sidonia, which have allowed them to maintain the population while drifting through space. Nagate Tanikaze is a young man who has been raised deep in the bowels of the ship. When he goes into training to pilot the huge robotic weapons known as Gardes, Nagate is entrusted with piloting the legendary unit known as Tsugumori. Nagate and his fellow pilots put their lives on the line against the Gauna, in the ultimate battle for the survival of humanity. (Source:AniDB)

Thoughts: This sounds a bit similar to my favorite RPG, so I am very hyped for this anime! It has everything I love: aliens, robots, and space ships. Just thinking about all of those makes me grin.  Not a huge fan of 3D CGI, so that's the only downside so far. But hopefully everything else is excellent because I will be very disappointed if they were! Better not be a snooze-fest :x

Verdict: YES. WATCHING!!

Mekaku City Actors

Trailer: Here

Plot: Shintaro Kisaragi--a HikiNEET who shut himself inside his room for 2 years and has been living his life normally until he met a cyber girl named Ene, who appeared in his computer screen when someone anonymously sent him a mysterious e-mail one year ago. One day, Ene had been messing up with Shintaro's PC. which cause him have to go to outside world for first time in 2 years. (Source: Myanimelist)

Thoughts: The art reminds me of a Vocaloid song...which makes sense because this is based on the "Kagerou Project" series of Vocaloid songs. Makes sense now ^-^" Plot doesn't seem that complex, but who knows, might surprise me.

Verdict: I'll try an episode or two.

Gokukoku no Brynhildr

Trailer: Here

Plot: The original manga revolves around high school boy Ryōta Murakami, who cannot forget his female childhood friend whom he let die in an accident. Feeling that he must fulfill their promise of proving the existence of aliens, he has continuously looked up at the sky as a member of the astronomy club. One day, a girl named Neko Kuroha who looks exactly like his childhood friend appears as a transfer student. It turns out that she is a magic-user that has run away from a research lab. (Source: ANN)

Thoughts: Brynhildr is such a cool name, so I hope this ends up to be a cool anime. Sounds pretty interesting, especially because I always like stories about fugitives. The trailer looks like the anime holds a lot of promise! (and feels)

Verdict: Will be watching~

Akuma no Riddle

Trailer: Here

Plot: The story is set at Myoujou Academy, a private girls' boarding school. The 10th year's Kurogumi class has 12 assassins with their sights on one target, Haru Ichinose. Tokaku Azuma is a recent transfer student who is also targeting Ichinose, but she gradually develops feelings for Ichinose.

(Source: ANN)

Thoughts: For anyone who doesn't know this, this anime is actually a yuri. But this doesn't sound like a happy-go-lucky yuri at all. Sounds like there's going to be a lot of action and drama. Could be a hit or miss.

Verdict: Will be watching~

Black Bullet

Trailer: Here

Plot: In the year 2021, mankind was decimated by the epidemic of Gastrea, a parasitical virus, and is forced to live within Monoliths, which are created from Varanium: a metal that is able to subdue Gastrea. Soon, the "Cursed Children", children born with the Gastrea virus who are able to control it, which gives them superhuman abilities, are discovered. Due to the Gastrea virus' intervention, the Cursed Children could only be female. Civil Securities are formed to specialize fighting against Gastrea, operating with the pair of an Initiator, who are cursed children, and a Promoter, serving to lead the cursed children. Ten years after the epidemic, Rentarō Satomi, a high school student who is also a Promoter in his childhood friend Kisara Tendō's Tendō Civil Security, along with his Initiator Enju Aihara, receives a secret mission to prevent the Tokyo Area's destruction.

Thoughts: Virus epidemics! So far I am slightly confused reading the plot  above. Sounds like it could be interesting, but with a complicated plot like that, how well will it be executed? The trailer might be my favorite for the season though. You could feel the suspense for sure!

Verdict: Plan to watch.

Hitsugi no Chaika

Plot: Toru Acura is a 20-year-old retired soldier meandering through life now that the war has ended. He encounters Chaika Trabant, a 14-year-old sorceress carrying a coffin, and follows her in hopes of finding meaning to his life again. The two travel with Toru's adopted sister, Akari, the employed member of the group and thus Toru's source of income.

Thoughts: The plot doesn't exactly impress me, but carrying a coffin is badass. Chaika also has a great eyebrow game going on. Just not quite sure about this one, but maybe it'll turn out to be good.
Verdict: Will try an episode or two.

Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei

Trailer: Here

Plot: Magic is a product of neither legends nor fairy tales, but instead has become a technology of reality since a time unknown to people. Supernatural power became a technology systematized through magic, while magic became a technical skill. A "Supernatural Power User" became a "Magic Technician." Magic Technicians (in short, Magicians) are nurtured through Magic High Schools and Universities. This is a story about: Tatsuya, a defective elder brother low achiever. Miyuki, a perfect, flawless younger sister high achiever. After both siblings entered a Magic High School, The stage of daily turbulence was unveiled—. (Source: Baka-Tsuki)

Thoughts: Sounds like a ripoff magical version of Soul Eater. Also, I'm not a huge fan of incest relationships, so I hope the romance in this anime is not between the two protagonists.

Verdict: Probably not going to watch.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou

Plot: Usa, a high-school student aspiring to begin a bachelor lifestyle, moves into a new apartment only to discover that he not only shares a room with a perverted roommate that has an obsession for underaged girls, but also that another girl, Ritsu, a love-at-first-sight, is living in the same building as well!

Thoughts: Sounds kind of...typical? Don't really like the whole underage girl thing going on.

Verdict: Not going to watch.

Mangaka-san to Assistant-san to

Trailer: Here

Plot: A life description about the mangaka Aito Yuuki and his assistant Ashisu Sahoto.
Aito doesn't understand the feelings of the characters on his stories. So he asks Ashisu to help him. Ashisu would do everything for the work. She would even let him touch her breast so he will know how it feels like?!

The Habit?! The Pervert?! Can we understand them? That's the comedy of a mangaka life.

(Source: MU)

Thoughts: I'm not sure how accurate this anime will represent mangakas. It doesn't need to be accurate, but I don't want people misunderstanding how hard it is to be one. This anime doesn't sound too great so far.

 Verdict: Not watching

Kamigami no Asobi ~Ludere deorum~

Trailer: Here

Plot: The story revolves around heroine Yui Kusanagi, who is ordered by Zeus, a god and the headmaster of a school he created, to teach the meaning of love to young and handsome gods. The reason he has for doing this is to cancel the negative effects of the weakening bond between the world of the divine and the world of the humans. (Source: ANN)

Thoughts: To be honest, I love shows like these. I usually like reverse harems, but sometimes they can mess up (Amnesia, Brother's Conflict). Concept sounds really cool, so hopefully the anime won't suck. Looks like the same kind of art as Hakuouki, so that's a plus! They should release the game here in the US too. I'd buy it instantly...

Verdict: Yes!

Spring 2014 sounds quite promising! I think I'll enjoy it much more than the winter 2013/2014 anime for sure~

  1. Out of the entries in this list, Knights of Sidonia is the only one that interests me. But I don't know. Sometimes it's not always about the premise, it's about how it's executed, so we can't really say for sure if something is going to be good or bad. But as of now, Knights of Sidonia is the only one I'm eyeing on.

    1. I agree! Sometimes a story can sound excellent and then the anime turns out to be awful. Really depends on how well it was produced :) Can't wait for Knights of Sidonia. Sounds like it has a lot of potential, let's just see if it gets carried out well.
