Anime Gourmet: Super Easy & Basic Tamagoyaki ≧◡≦

Hey, everyone~ Today I'm switching things up by posting my very first entry of Anime Gourmet! Anime Gourmet is a new series of entries that focuses on making food found in anime. I have to admit, anime food looks mouthwatering most of the time, so why not make them ourselves? Though I am not the best chef in the world, I hope that my tutorials will aid you in making your own versions of the recipes that I will post :) Today's recipe is the delicious tamagoyaki, a form of omelette. Let's get cooking ¬‿¬

Tamagoyaki, or 卵焼き, is literally a grilled egg. Traditionally in Japan, tamagoyaki is made by using a rectangular pan, but it can also be prepared in circular ones as well. Eating my first tamagoyaki was exotic; it tasted much like the egg that you would find in fried rice, but sweeter. Nonetheless, I enjoyed it and have made it plenty of times. It is a quick, simple, and customizable recipe that anyone could make on their own.

Time Required: 5 minutes
Serves:
Difficulty:  Easy

You will need:
  • Spatula
  • Frying pan
  • Mixing bowl
Ingredients:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 tsp of butter or vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
 Tips:
  •  Try to use a large pan so that the egg can spread out while cooking. I used a small pan on my first try and I was not able to roll the egg as many times as I could have in a larger pan. A larger pan will allow the egg to spread, allowing you to fold it more times. (It will look nicer too!)
  • Double or triple the amounts in this tutorial to make bigger tamagoyaki!
  • For a lighter tamagoyaki, add less soy sauce. For a darker (and saltier) tamagoyaki, add more soy sauce.
  • Add more sugar if you like sweet food.
  • After making your tamagoyaki, place a piece on top of rice. It tastes really good!
  • You can add almost anything to your tamagoyaki like chicken, green onions, almonds, mayo, and more. Try adding different things if you're feeling adventurous and see what you like the most.

Steps:

1. Start off by using 1/2 tsp of butter or oil to lightly grease your frying pan to avoid the egg sticking.

2. Crack your egg into a mixing bowl. Add 1 tsp soy sauce and 1/2 tsp sugar. Mix together.

The color looks very brown because of the soy sauce, but the result will be tasty ^-^

3. Pour mixture into a frying pan and make sure that it spreads all throughout the pan.

Do not be afraid of the color! I was scared when I first made this, but it's normal.

*Keep a close eye on the egg because it cooks very quickly!*

 4.  As the egg starts to solidify, take your spatula and fold the egg in half. Then, let it cook a bit more inside.

5. Keep folding the egg until it can't fold anymore or when it reaches the width you desire. The more folds your tamagoyaki has, the cooler it looks~

6. After making sure the egg has fully cooked, transfer it to a plate.

YUMMY EGG <3

7. Cut into several pieces and ENJOY!!

So delicious and easy to make :3

There you have it! Take a bite of your Japanese-style omelette and enjoy. It's a super easy treat to make for breakfast or something you might want to put into your bento for lunch. Hope you liked the first entry of Anime Gourmet. Be sure to look for more recipes in the future :3
